Super cute Soakers for the Super Cute Babe!!

I found myself with a rare weekend off and my lovely wife let me have a mini sew marathon. I turned out a few new fleece soakers for the babe!! They turned out super cute and of course Elliot looks adorable in them. Joann was having a 50%off sale on all of their fleece so I had several different prints to choose from. I finished 3 longies and 2 shorts completely. I have 6 shorts just waiting on waistbands to be complete.

Visiting the North Pole

We took the girls on a train ride to visit the North Pole over the weekend...or so they thought. Kids will believe anything if you give them cookies! Audrey really enjoyed the train ride, Elliot really enjoyed trying to chew on the seat cushions. This was the first year Audrey didn't scream bloody murder the second she was placed on Santa's lap. Way to go girl!

Cloth Diaper JACKPOT!!!

Jenny and I found ourselves in Target the other night looking for I don't know what when I looked up at an end cap to find Bum Genius OS cloth diapers SUPER CHEAP! We may or may not have got crazy purchasing 17 of them. This is the first time I have ever even seen Target carry cloth, let alone marked down so low. Yay for adding to our collection and never having to buy diapers again!!!

Handmade Holidays

I made this cute and simple Ballet Bag for Audrey. Just something for her to carry her ballet shoes to and from class every week. It's lined with the same color as the straps and turned out to be almost exactly what she wanted (upon completion she informed me that she had wanted a rectangle bag - not a square).

My kids hate to wear clothes

Winter is really starting to show its ugly face but Elliot still HATES wearing clothes. Here she is during a brief moment of joy when I let her remain near naked for a few extra minutes between wardrobe changes.

Halloween - a recap from years before a blog

2006 - Beaver, store bought, fit much like a sleep sack

2007 - Skeleton, store bought jogging suit, very practical for the age

2008 - Pile of Leaves
Handmade by: me

Materials: jogging suit, silk leaves, needle/thread, knit cap

Process: I literally sewed every lead onto the jogging suit by hand. This took a lot longer than I thought it would. A friend tried to copy this costume the following year but instead of sewing on the leaves she decided hot glue would be quicker. It was quicker, but didn't look nearly as good. The best thing about this costume was the fact that the leaves were sewn onto a regular jogging suit so it was very comfortable and practical for a slow moving toddler.
Cost: $50 (silk leaves are expensive!!)

2009 - Jellyfish

Handmade by: Me

Materials: old hat, bubble wrap, ribbon, tulle, jogging suit, beads
Process: I took one of Jenny's old sun hats and wrapped bubble wrap around in multiple times. Next I covered it in pink fabric and tulle. Added some shiny beads onto the body to make it sparkle. Finally, attached ribbon in different size and textures. She wore a black jogging suit to contrast the pink jellyfish. Once again this was super comfortable and warm. Even that hat was pretty light because the bulk of it had been made with bubble wrap.

Cost: $20

2010 - Glinda

Handmade by: Me

Process: The entire account for the making of Glinda can be found at an earlier post.

Cost: $45 (I had most of the fabric already)

2010 - Munchkin

Trick or Treat

I had an absolute BLAST making the costumes this year for the girls. Audrey made the request for Glinda early on but I still didn't get on it quite as early as I would have liked. Still, the finished product was exactly what she wanted and we both could not have been more pleased. Since Elliot was obviously too young to have an opinion on the matter I took the opportunity to make the choice for her. I figured what better to suit Glinda then one of her munchkins. The end result receive rave reviews and in the end I was sad to have to pack these costumes away.

Cowen Lake Fall Campout Weekend

This weekend we get to combine two of our favorite things - camping and costumes! It's that time again where we set up camp, dress up the kids, and parade them around the campground. Seriously though, it is really fun (Especially when you have the best dressed child in the campground). The weather was a bit cool but nothing a tiny space heater in the tent and a fire burning outside couldn't take care of. This time we opted not to bring the pack and play for Elliot since it would be colder this time camping and let her sleep with us. So we set up 2 queen air beds and each took a kid to snuggle with. They both did great, with the small exception of a bit of ash from the fire landing on Audrey's shoulder and slowly burning a hole through the layers until reaching her skin and her freaking out. She may or may not be afraid of the camp fire now.

Tyler and Audrey - Home alone for 2 days

We have received a few updates from home while we are at the hospital awaiting the arrival of baby sister:
