House of Funk

And the sicknees continues...
Seriously, it has been the house of funk around here for weeks now. Upon returning from vacation, the first of the year, Audrey got sick. Next, I got the flu followed by strep throat. Then Jenny got a sinus infection and Audrey got ANOTHER cold. Then I got a cold. Now, Elliot has a fever, runny nose and it appears a sore throat (note Audrey is STILL sick with a pretty vicious cold). I'd say the hardest to deal with is poor Elliot. The entire time we were all getting sick we were able to spare her. We had family over to help care for the kids and for the entire duration of my funk I stayed locked in my room. It's just so hard when the littlest ones get sick. They can't talk and tell you exactly what is wrong and they don't understand. You can't explain it to them. This is the first time Elliot will be at the doctor for something other than a wellness appointment. And while I am ecstatic we have gone over 10 months without a sick visit I still hate that she has to go. Poor girl. If I hadn't had strep we would probably skip the doctor but I just want to be on the safe side of things and get her checked out.
Also, I'm pretty sure that I am totally allergic to the awesome antibiotics I'm taking for strep but I keep taking them. They are almost gone so there is no point in going back to the doctor now. The hives will go away eventually.

knit, purl, knit knit, purl

Now that it's getting cold out I suddenly get the urge to pull out the needles and knit. Prior to now I have ever only been able to finish a scarf here and there. Once I did a hat but it was nothing to write home about. This year I am determined to really get into knitting. I even joined this site to find and keep track of projects. It also helps motivate me as I see what others are able to turn out. So far the best project I have been able to complete has been a vest for Elliot. It's a free pattern I found the link to through ravelry , called the Cali Unisex Vest . Its perfect for adding an extra layer of warmth on these cold winter nights. While I certainly would not call this vest perfect, it is wearable. Hopefully I will be able to complete another one very soon and fix all of the mistakes I made on this first one. This is the perfect project for those new to knitting. Especially new to following patterns. And it's pretty quick once to get it started and beyond getting used to circular needles - something new for me.

The khaki soakers were made back when Audrey was still in diapers from a felted sweater and patter that I have mis-placed the link to but still have the hard copy to - thank goodness!
